Prof. Maria Penelope De Santo

Maria De Santo is an Associate Professor of Applied Physics at University of Calabria and an associate member of the CNR – Institute of Nanotechnology. She graduated with honors from University of Calabria in 1997 and obtained her PhD in 2001. She worked as post doc fellow at the Research Institute for Materials, University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands) and as young researcher in the Innovative Display Technologies group, QinetiQ Ltd., Malvern Technology Centre, United Kingdom. In 2012 she was Marie Curie fellow at University of Oxford, UK.

Among her scientific interests are the use of Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques for the study of soft and biological materials and the technological applications of liquid crystals. She has coauthored more than 110 papers in peer review journals and 4 patents and she has been involved in several national and international research projects.

She has supervised several BSc students and MSc students in Physics and Materials Science and she is a member of the Physics teacher commission of the University of Calabria.
